CFF Program - Catholic Faith Formation
Good Shepherd Church Catholic Faith Formation program welcomes all baptized children/youth to participate in the CFF Program. Our program is staffed completely by volunteers – Catechists - who donate their time and talents. All classes are taught on site. For more information about becoming a Catechist contact Menchie Cabrera at firstname.lastname@example.org or call 916.683.2963.
Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults
The Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults process is a series of carefully planned stages, marked by liturgical rites in the presence of the Good Shepherd community, in which new Catholics embark on and join us in a continuing and deepening conversion of faith and discipleship. The RCIA takes the distinctive history and spiritual needs of each person into account. Volunteers are needed in many areas to provide support to the RCIA catechumens. For more information contact Verne Bowers at RCIA@gscceg.org.
Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA) Process for Catechetical Year 2017-2018:
The RCIA Team will begin facilitating Q&A sessions after the showing of an excellent documentary film called Convinced. This 85 minute film features famous radio/TV talk show hosts, apologetics, theologians, university professors, evangelical and protestant ministers as they relate their journey towards full communion with the Catholic Church. You can view the trailer at http://donjohnsonministries.org/convinced/.
Join us in the John Paul II Conference Room in one or more of these sessions from 12:30 – 2:30 p.m. on the following Sundays: Mar. 26, Apr. 30, May 21, June 25 and July 30, Aug. 6 and Aug. 13. A mandatory session will be held on Sunday, Aug. 20th from 12:30 – 2:30 p.m. for all Inquirers who will be ready to participate in the RCIA Process.
RCIA Adapted for Children
The RCIA Adapted for Children is adapted from the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults. Our process is for children who are not baptized, baptized in another faith or were baptized in the Catholic faith but have not had any formation or catechesis. This process is a family journey leading to a lifelong thirst for knowledge of Christ and his Church. The RCIA process is marked by a series of Rites which define the passage through the RCIA journey. At Good Shepherd, we accept children between the ages of 8 and 17 into the RCIA program after a family interview. We are looking for catechists who are available on Sundays - all our sessions revolve around the Sunday Liturgy. We need catechists and assistants for three age groups (7-9 , 10-12, and teens). Additional catechists are needed for Breaking of the Word - where children hear the Sunday readings and discuss how they can live out the Gospel message. Lastly we need hospitality ministers to assist with organizing snacks on Sundays, refreshments after Rites or during retreats, etc. If you are interested or would like more information, please contact John Hanson at RCIA-C@gscceg.org.
Children's Liturgy of the Word (CLOW)
Children’s Liturgy of the Word is a ministry designed to accommodate children in first through fourth grades at the 9am, 11am and 5pm Masses. The children are dismissed from Mass before the first reading so that they can hear the Word of God in age appropriate language. They then participate in discussions about what they are reading and return to Mass after the Homily. For more information contact Chris Kusuma at email@example.com.
Kinderchurch is a parent participation religious education program for children between the ages of 18 months to Kindergarten. Our ministry takes place during the 9am Sunday Mass from September to May of each year. The children involved learn about our Catholic Faith through age-appropriate stories, songs, activities and lessons. Teachers, assistants and youth volunteers are always appreciated and welcome! We would love to have you join the ministry if you have a desire to share God's word with the children. No experience is necessary and all curriculum and materials are provided for the classes. Please contact the Kinderchurch team for more information on joining our program at firstname.lastname@example.org.
