"You are the light of the world. A city set on a mountain cannot be hidden." (Mt. 5:14)
This is the Fifth Sunday of Ordinary Time. We continue to listen to Christ's Sermon on the Mount. Christ the light has come to illuminate our darkness. The world seems to advance because of AI technology; however, the way we are treating each other proves the contrary. Isolation and lack of meaning are growing. Christ warns us that if our light goes out those around us lose out. He wants us to radiate his light to those who may only receive it through our word and testimony.
We are to be the good odor of Christ. "They will know we are Christians by our love" is a song we hear at Church frequently. Those around me should know that I am Christian without me publicizing it. Only by frequent contact with Christ through prayer and the Sacraments will this happen. We cannot give what we don't have. I need to receive his light daily by reading and mediating on scripture and receive food from the Eucharistic Banquet.
Questions for Reflection:
- Have I allowed my light to dim through complacency?
- Am I aware that someone will not receive the light of Christ if I don't share it?
- Do I schedule my prayer time convinced that without it, I will only transmit my impatience and anxiety?

Prayer for Our Parish
Father, You invite each of us to share in the life and ministry of your Son, Jesus. Send your Holy Spirit to form our parish as a community of missionary disciples. Teach us how to hear Jesus, to love Jesus, and to share your gift of salvation with everyone we meet.
Through the witness and intercession of Mary, guide me to deepen my commitment as a disciple of Jesus. Lead our parish to grow as an intentional community, committed to go and announce the Gospel of the Lord. We ask these blessings in the name of your Son, Jesus Christ. Amen.
