Confirmation is the sacrament by which Catholics receive a special outpouring of the Holy Spirit. Through Confirmation, the Holy Spirit gives them the increased ability to practice their Catholic faith in every aspect of their lives and to witness Christ in every situation.
The preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation is a 2-year program for students entering 7th – 11th grade who have already received the sacraments of Baptism & First Holy Eucharist. Each catechetical year runs from September - May.
If you are an adult needing to complete the sacraments of Baptism, First Holy Eucharist and/or Confirmation, learn more about our RCIA Program.
Confirmation Preparation for the 2023-2024 catechetical year is in-person. We will be using the following curriculum and online platforms:
ONE EIGHT (LIFE TEEN) curriculum that prepares youth to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation. ONE EIGHT utilizes experiential, relational, and systematic methods that engage youth in their faith while presenting teachings that are doctrinally sound and rooted in the Catechism and Sacred Scripture.
GOOGLE CLASSROOM & GOOGLE APPS will be used to assign and turn in independent work and projects in and out of the class sessions. We will also use this platform for catechists and parents to track student & parent progress throughout the year. Students & Parents will be required to have Gmail accounts.
The Core Team is a team of committed members of the Church who have chosen to volunteer their time & talents to minister to the middle school & high school youth who are preparing to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation. Each Core Team Member is trained in basic youth ministry skills, including facilitating small group discussions. Above all, they are committed to forming relationships with the youth and to being bold witnesses of the Catholic faith.
Time Commitment & Responsibilies: The monthly ONE EIGHT Nights are 6:30 - 8:30 PM, with Core Team arriving by 6:00 PM and staying until about 8:45 PM to help with setup, check-in, & greeting students before the night begins and cleanup at the end of the night (students help too). There is about 1.5 - 2.5 hours of advance preparation for the ONE EIGHT Nights (reading through the lesson and agenda and monthly Core Team meeting - optional: in-person or zoom). Core Team will share additional responsibilities throughout the year (EDGE Nights, Work of Mercy Service Projects, Retreats, etc.). The Core Team's primary responsibility is as Small Group Discussion Facilitator on ONE EIGHT Nights, and helping to track progress of the candidates as they complete the requirements for Sacrament Preparation. If you have more specific questions, please contact Elizabeth Pott (email below).
How to join: Core Team Members must be a High School, College, or Adult parishioner who has already received the Sacrament of Confirmation. If you are interested or would like more information about joining Core Team, fill out the Core Team Interest Form and the Confirmation Coordinator will contact you.
