Weekly Reflection - 4th Sunday of Advent (2024)

"Behold, I come to do your will, O God." (Heb. 10:7)

This is the Fourth Sunday of Advent.  Christ the answer to our salvation is near. Theologians especially St. Thomas Aquinas have helped us understand why Christ came.  We were enslaved by sin and incapable of freeing ourselves.  Even the holiest of the patriarchs and prophets couldn't do it.  It could only take a man who was also God.  "Christ was the only person to come into the world to die," says Fulton Sheen.

His life and death was a continual yes to God to undo the no given by Adam.  Christ is the New Adam and Mary the New Eve.  Both Jesus and Mary show us that our whole life existence also should be to obey God's will for our lives.  The moment we were baptized, our lives became part of salvation history.  Because of our yes, many others will receive the gift of salvation also.  Let us receive Christ this Christmas with hearts full of gratitude and as Missionary Disciples share this gift with everyone we meet.

Questions for Reflection:

  • Do I obey God out of love like Christ and Mary?
  • When I lack generosity, does the love of Christ urge me on?
  • Am I convinced that I am Christ's hands, feet, eyes and mouth in the world today?
