First Holy Communion

Preparation for children for the Sacrament of First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion at Good Shepherd parish is a two-year program. Parents are to register their child(ren) at the start of their first-grade year. Children receive First Holy Communion after preparation in our parish school or catechetical program, usually in the second grade.

First Holy Communion Preparation

Year 1 First Holy Communion Preparation is for NEW students entering grades 1 - 6.

This program lays the foundation for your child’s spiritual growth and the spiritual development of their knowledge of the Catholic faith. The focus in year 1 is for the child to know that God’s love and friendship are always with them. We will present a simple foundation for building a relationship with God. They will learn the elementary prayers and will introduce new ones as well. We will introduce them to Keywords to Remember to help them improve their faith vocabulary.

FHC Year 1 for Grades 1 & 2 is a combo class and available on Tuesdays from 4:00-5:30 PM, Tuesdays from 6:00-7:30 PM and Thursdays from 4:00-5:30 PM.  Class availability is subject to enrollment numbers.

FHC Year 1 for Grades 3 - 6 is their grade level general catechesis class available on Tuesdays from 4:00-5:30 PM, Tuesdays from 6:00-7:30 PM and Thursdays from 4:00-5:30 PM.  Class availability is subject to enrollment numbers.

Year 2 First Holy Communion Preparation is for students entering grades 2 - 6 who have already completed FHC Year 1.

Your child will learn Jesus’ forgiveness and peace in the Sacrament of Reconciliation. They will recognize the great gift of the Eucharist when they receive the Precious Body and Blood of Jesus Christ under the appearance of bread and wine. Your child will learn the Real Presence of Jesus in these Sacraments. Lastly, your child will learn the meaning of Mass, its different parts, and how to be an active participant.

FHC Year 2 for Grades 2 & 3 is a combo class and available on Tuesdays from 4:00-5:30 PM, Tuesdays from 6:00-7:30 PM and Thursdays from 4:00-5:30 PM. Class availability is subject to enrollment numbers.

FHC Year 2 for Grades 4 - 6 is a combo class and only available on Tuesdays from 6:00-7:30 PM.

TSP First Holy Eucharist Preparation is for NEW students entering grades 7 – 12.

If you have a teen entering school in the Fall as a 7th – 12th grader, TSP will prepare them to receive the Sacraments of Reconciliation and First Holy Communion. This is a two-year program with language and structure meant to establish a foundational understanding of the Catholic faith and basic Catholic prayers. In these classes, your teen will learn Jesus’ forgiveness and peace in the Sacrament of Reconciliation. They will recognize the great gift of the Eucharist when they receive the Precious Body and Blood of Jesus Christ under the appearance of bread and wine. Your teen will learn the Real Presence of Jesus in these Sacraments. Lastly, your teen will learn the meaning of Mass, its different parts, and how to be an active participant. We will present them with a building block of Keywords to Remember to help them improve their faith vocabulary. This two-year program will conclude with the reception of the First Holy Communion and prepare them to enter preparations for the Sacrament of Confirmation the following year.

TSP classes are ONLY offered on Tuesdays from 6:00-7:30 PM.
