Winter Sanctuary 2019-2020
Good Shepherd offers hope and comfort for the Elk Grove Homeless.
Planning is underway for our third year hosting EG WINS, otherwise known as Winter Sanctuary, from Sunday evening December 29th, 2019 to Sunday morning, January 5th, 2020. Homeless guests will be at Good Shepherd each night for an evening meal, a safe, warm and dry place to stay, and a morning breakfast and sack lunch to go. VOLUNTEERS ARE NEEDED from our church community!!!! There are many ways that you can help-- click on the link above to sign up. If you prefer monetary donations, they can be brought directly to the church office. (We are hoping to buy each guest a Y pass and a laundromat pass.)
Our first volunteer orientation will be on Sunday, Dec 15th at 2:000 PM in the Father Phillip Wells Hall.
Not available to help at Good Shepherd???
This season, three weeks of EG WINS is planned at the Teen Center USA, located next to Elk Grove United Methodist Church. This is great because EG WINS continues to offer 12 weeks of help for the homeless. But the Teen Center USA does not have volunteers to staff the overnight teams (84 volunteers needed) or meal teams (21 dinners needed). Can you volunteer to help us? Training is provided.
The three weeks volunteers are needed at the Teen Center USA:
- Dec 22 to 28, 2019
- Jan 26 to Feb 1, 2020
- Feb 16 to 22, 2020

A recent article in The Sacramento Bee indicated that the Winter Sanctuary program was being shut down. This DOES NOT apply to the Elk Grove Winter Sanctuary - only the Sacramento program. The Elk Grove Winter Sanctuary is proceeding as planned this year.
