"For we walk by faith, not by sight." (2 Cor. 5:7)
This is the Eleventh Sunday of Ordinary Time. Jesus uses simple images such as the mysterious growth of a seed to help us understand divine mysteries. St. Paul speaks of faith that enables us to see God's hand in every situation. We tend to think that only what we see and perceive with our senses is what's most real. We experience the spiritual realm by faith not by sight.
We have received the theological virtues in our baptism. Faith enables us to have direct contact with God. There is never anything that happens to us without God's knowledge. Prayer enables us to go up to God every day in order to see our life from his perspective. For God, failures are often successes and successes in our eyes can be failures if they don't bring us closer to him.
Questions for Reflection:
- Do I judge what happens to me with a supernatural spirit?
- Do I recognize that faith is like a muscle that has to be exercised daily in order to grow?
- Am I able to see the cross in my life through the lens of faith?
