Weekly Reflection - 4th Sunday of Easter (2023)

"I am the good shepherd, says the Lord; I know my sheep, and mine know me." (Jn. 10:14)

This is the Fourth Sunday of Easter.  It is Good Shepherd Sunday and the World Day of Prayer for Vocations.  The shepherd knows his sheep and they know him.  It is evident that loneliness is on the rise.  We can be surrounded by others or even have over 1,000 Facebook friends but not experience intimacy.  Christ is that one person who knows us better than we know ourselves and loves us as we are.  When we invite him into our lives and surrender to Him, the void for love in our hearts is filled.

We are called to lead others to Christ so that He may quench their thirst for living water.    Whether it be clergy or parents we have been called to shepherd others.  Christ is our model for this.  He is firm in his principles but caring in his manners.  Even though he told people at times what was difficult for them to hear, they listened because they knew it came from a place of love.

Questions for Reflection:

  • Do I spend time daily with the Good Shepherd?
  • Have I experienced intimacy with Christ?
  • Do I imitate Christ's goodness in my dealings with others?
