Weekly Reflection - 4th Sunday of Lent (2024)

"For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of the light."(Eph. 5:8)

This is the Fourth Sunday of Lent.  The Scrutiny Readings give us the element of light for our reflection.  Unless we value what Christ has done for us, we won't be able to show gratitude by a life that corresponds to such a great gift.  Born in sin, we are blind to see God's truth to guide us.

Fulton Sheen said that only those with faith are able to see reality as it truly is.  Christ has revealed himself to us.  By knowing Him we find the light of the enigma of the meaning of our lives. The light of Christ in our lives dispels the darkness and brings redemptive value to our cross.  We shouldn't be enemies of the cross but rather help others find its redemptive value. We are called to let our light shine.

Questions for Reflection:

  • Do I have frequent contact with Christ to guide my life by His light?
  • Do I keep this light to myself or do I share it with others?
  • Can I say that I am like Simon of Cyrene while carrying my own cross, I help others carry theirs?
