Weekly Reflection - 5th Sunday of Easter (2022)

"He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there shall be no more death or mourning, wailing or pain, for the old order has passed away." (Rev. 21:4)

This is the Fifth Sunday of Easter.  We have been made a new creation by our Baptism.  Baptism enables us to share in God's very life.  Christ's mysteries are our mysteries.  His Resurrection is the promise of our immortality to come.

Job tells us that life on earth for men and women is a constant battle.  Jesus does not promise us heaven on earth but rather hope in God's fidelity to his promises.  Without frequently gazing upward we set ourselves up for failure.  God offers us happiness here but will not reach completion until hopefully we hear the words, "Good and faithful servant... enter into the joy of your Lord" (Mt. 25:23).

Questions for Reflection:

  • How often do I think about heaven?
  • Do I understand that every day is an opportunity to merit an eternal reward?
  • When I suffer, do I think about Christ's cross and his promise to those who persevere to the end?
