Weekly Reflection - The Epiphany of the Lord

"And Mary kept all these things, reflecting on them in her heart." (Lk 2:19)

The Church in her wisdom invites us to start the new year with Mary the Mother of God.  We look to the past with gratitude, forward with hope and live the present moment with love.  Mary understood each day as a gift from God.  Because she trusted in God's goodness, she realized that all things happen for good.  As we begin this year, we must renew our complete dependence on God's providential care for us.

I find this quote from St Francis De Sales helpful:  "Do not look forward to what may happen tomorrow; the same everlasting Father who cares for you today will take care of you tomorrow and every day. Either He will shield you from suffering, or He will give you unfailing strength to bear it. Be at peace, then, and put aside all anxious thoughts and imaginations."

Questions for Reflection:

  • Do I pray every day as if everything depends on God and work as if everything depends on me?
  • Do I wake up in the morning counting my blessings and awaiting new signs of God's love?
  • Does the suffering I have experienced in the past prevent me from living the present moment with love?
