Weekly Reflection - Pentecost Sunday (2023)

"Rivers of living water will flow from within him who believes in me." (Jn. 7:38)

This is Pentecost Sunday.  God's love to us is superabundant.  On the day of Pentecost the Apostles were filled with the Holy Spirit.  There was an outpouring of charisms and gifts for the building up of the body of Christ.  Each of us has received the life giving Spirit in Baptism and his fulness in Confirmation.

St. Paul exhorts us to fan the flame that is within us.  We all need a new Pentecost or reawakening of all the gifts we have received.  With the Holy Spirit, the word of God becomes living and active, Christ becomes a real person in my life, I begin to have a deeper appreciation of Christ in the Eucharist, I experience Mary as my true spiritual mother and the apostolic mission of the Church becomes my own.  Let us ask the Holy Spirit to grant us this spiritual renewal.

Questions for Reflection:

  • Have I felt the presence of the Holy Spirit in my life?
  • Do I turn to him frequently to ask for his light and counsel?
  • Do I ask daily for a new outpouring of his gifts so I may better fulfill my mission?
