Father Michael's Weekly Reflection

Weekly Reflection - Solemnity of the Holy Trinity (2025)

"The love of God has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit that has been given to us." (Rom. 5:5)

This Sunday is the Solemnity of the Holy Trinity. God is what he says he is, not what we think he is. The bedrock of our relationship with him is divine revelation. Over the centuries, God gradually revealed himself to humankind. With Jesus, we actually see the face of God. "Who has seen me, has seen the Father." (Jn. 14:9)

The Holy Spirit teaches us all things.  He allows us to know God not only theoretically but in an experiential manner. The spirit of God enables us to live no longer as slaves but sons and daughters. The experience of St. Augustine sheds light on our own experience. He confessed that he had wasted many years searching for God on the outside but he was always on the inside. In reality, he's closer to us that we are to ourselves.

Questions for Reflection:

  • Do I live in friendship with God?
  • Have I become too accustomed to God or with what I think I know about him?
  • Do I allow myself to live in wonder of God's love for me?
