"Take it; this is my body." Then he took a cup, gave thanks, and gave it to them, and they all drank from it. (Mk. 14:22)
This Sunday is the Solemnity of Corpus Christi. We are in the Parish Year of the Eucharistic Revival. Across the United States there have been Eucharistic Processions giving public witness to our faith in Jesus. We have a personal God. Our Lord has no longer called us servants but friends. His hidden presence in the Eucharist has accompanied the Church throughout the ages. "I will be with you until the end of time."
St. Augustine in his Confessions gives us a glimpse into his own spiritual experience. He comments "late have I loved you" and "I sought you on the outside but you were always within me." We all have a longing to love and be loved; a need for intimacy. The problem is that we seldom seek love where it is truly to be found. We all have a God void in our heart. The tragedy is to waste time on drinking the murky waters of the world instead of the fountain of grace which is the Eucharist.
Questions for Reflection:
- Do I have a personal relationship with Jesus?
- Is He truly someone and not something in my life?
- Do I appreciate that He remains with me after Mass in the tabernacle and I can visit Him anytime?
