Weekly Reflection - 3rd Sunday of Lent

"For three years now I have come in search of fruit on this fig tree but found none" (Lk 13:7)

This is the Third Sunday of Lent.  Christ gives us the parable of the landowner in search of fruit.  We often think of the sins that we commit but not so much our omissions.  God actually expects fruit from our lives.  They are also to be produced in the time he expects.

This Lent, we should examine ourselves on our use of time.  I have been given time, treasure and talent by God for a reason  All is to be used for his glory and for the benefit of my neighbor.  Because we can never be sure when God will call us from this life, this decision cannot be put off.

Questions for Reflection:

  • Can I say that my life is fruitful in God's eyes?
  • What are some concrete fruits I have offered God this week?
  • Do I realize that there might be a difference between the fruits that God expects and my own?
