Weekly Reflection - The Most Holy Trinity (2022)

"The love of God has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit that has been given to us." (Rom. 5:5)

This Sunday is the Solemnity of the Holy Trinity.  God is love.  There is distinction between the divine persons but inseparable unity.  The essence of God is love which knows no limits.  He had no need to create us but simply wanted to share his life with us.  He has no need of us but we have need of Him.  By loving Him we are truly loving ourselves.

God's love is generous.  It is a free, unmerited gift.  The ego is the exact opposite of divine love.  When we give ourselves to God and others, we realize ourselves and become the person we are created to be.  We need to ask ourselves if the majority of our ailments on a personal level and as a society simply come from overly thinking about ourselves and not living the commandment of love.

Questions for Reflection:

  • Do I see my life as a gift from God?
  • How much time do I spend daily thinking about myself and my things?
  • If I knew that today was the last day of my life, how would I live it?
  • Do I realize that at the end of my life, I will be judged on love?
