Weekly Reflection - 15th Sunday of Ordinary Time (2023)

[And he spoke to them at length in parables, saying: "A sower went out to sow."] (Mt. 13:3)

This is the Fifteenth Sunday of Ordinary Time.  Christ gives us the parable of the sower.  The sower scatters seed as he goes.  This seed produces fruit according the quality of the soil where it lands.  If there are obstacles, the seed cannot take root.

God's word is always efficacious.  Whether it produces fruit depends on our disposition.  When we remove the obstacles, growth takes place.  Worldly cares and superficiality often distract us from what is most important.  If we do not dedicate sufficient time and effort to our spiritual lives, we won't reap the benefits for ourselves and those around us.

Questions for Reflection:

  • Do I read and meditate frequently on the Word of God?
  • Do I intentionally add this time to my schedule?
  • What are the obstacles in my life that prevent this from happening?
