"Be vigilant at all times and pray that you have the strength to escape the tribulations that are imminent and to stand before the Son of Man." (Lk 21:36)
This Sunday is the first Sunday of Advent and the beginning of a new liturgical year. Thanksgiving offered us a time to reflect upon the many blessings we have received in our lives. There is a past, present and future.
Christ came, he comes and will come again. We are called to use our memory in order to practice gratitude. Christ comes by his grace one moment at a time. The present moment is the only moment we truly have. Christ will come again and expects to find us watchful in joyful expectation. May we begin this Advent with an open heart allowing the Holy Spirit to show us how we may best prepare for Christmas.
Questions for Reflection:
What prevents me from living in the present moment?
Do I understand that Advent is a necessary preparation for Christmas?
Am I prepared to live this season in prayer so as not to be caught up in the consumerism that surrounds me?
