"The things that come out from within are what defile." (Mk. 7:23)
This 22nd Sunday of Ordinary Time, Christ teaches us to purify our hearts. The Scribes and Pharisees paid close attention to the fidelity of numerous traditions. Christ came to bring the law to fulfillment and teach the spirit behind the law. All good or bad actions come from within.
The senses are windows of the soul. We freely allow unclean thoughts to enter by what we read and listen to. The divided world we live in today needs peacemakers. We must not allow deposits of anger, lust or anything that defiles to enter which later manifests itself in actions.
Questions for Reflection:
- Do I have the habit of guarding my senses?
- Am I able to see the pattern of myself allowing hurtful thoughts to enter?
- Do I consider myself a peacemaker or do I habitually find the negative and comment about it?
