Weekly Reflection - 25th Sunday in Ordinary Time (2022)

"For the children of this world are more prudent in dealing with their own generation than are the children of light." (Lk. 16:8)

This is the 25th Sunday of Ordinary Time.  Christ teaches us the need to dedicate ourselves completely to God.  There exists in each of us the desire for the rewards Christ promises in the Gospel.  We will have one hundredfold in this life and eternal life in the next if we follow him. However, he also says that we are in the world but not of the world.  We cannot serve two masters. The Beatitudes list the values of the disciple which are at odds with the world's.

The world promises us happiness here but it is fleeting and leaves us empty inside.  Each of us has a God void which only He can fill.  Scripture says, "My son, give me your heart."  We will not experience the freedom of the children of God until we cut ties with what binds us to earth.

Questions for Reflection:

  • Can I say that I am coherent in my living of the faith?
  • Is there something in my life I'm not ready to give up?
  • Do I realize that I can only experience the joy of the Gospel in the complete gift of myself?
