Weekly Reflection - 27th Sunday of Ordinary Time (2024)

"That is why a man leaves his father and mother and clings to his wife, and the two of them become one body." (Gen. 2:24)

This is the 27th Sunday of Ordinary Time.  "In the beginning" signifies the original plan of God.  There was a right order which produced harmony and peace.  God gave man a companion of equal dignity to share his life with.  They put God first and loved him in each other.  The vocation of Matrimony is of primary importance in the Church today. When love grows between the spouses, children are the recipients of their love.

Couples are called by God to nurture their mutual love daily.  Marriage is a lifelong commitment rooted in God's love and fidelity. Because God is faithful, the couple can lean on his strength to help them get through difficult times and actually grow in their marital bond. Love is equal to sacrifice.  By contemplating Christ's love for the Church, we see what true love means.

Questions for Reflection:

  • Do I see Marriage as a vocation and a path to holiness?
  • Do I see difficulties as opportunities to grow in virtues as a couple?
  • Do I pray with my spouse daily?
