Weekly Reflection - 28th Sunday in Ordinary Time (2024)

"Jesus, looking at him, loved him." (Mk. 10:21)

This is the 28th Sunday of Ordinary Time.  The story of the rich young man is the story of every vocation.  He finds in Jesus the answer to his deepest longings and aspirations for eternal life.  The first reading speaks of he who has wisdom is able to make good decisions in reference to what is most important in life.

He who has Jesus has everything.  "He who finds Jesus finds a good treasure, yes, good above all good; and he who loses Jesus loses exceeding much, yes, more than the whole world." (Imitation of Christ, Bk. 2, Ch. 7). Jesus looks at each of us with love.  He wants to convince me that his path for my life does not contradict my desire for happiness but rather fulfills it.

Questions for Reflection:

  • Do I seek Jesus above all things?
  • Am I generous in my following of Him?
  • Is there anything I'm unwilling to give up?
