Weekly Reflection - 2nd Sunday of Easter (Divine Mercy)

Thomas answered and said to him, "My Lord and my God!" (Jn. 20:28)

Today is the Second Sunday of Easter or Divine Mercy Sunday.  Thomas was not with the rest of the Apostles when Jesus appeared.  He might have felt a special loneliness or dejection similar to the disciples of Emaus "We were hoping that..."

Christ had particular mercy on him.  His act of faith would be the example after for many who have moments of doubt.  Afterwards, he would go and confirm his brothers as Peter did.  We are to seek the answers to our doubts regarding faith by doing due diligence but most of all praying "Lord, I believe but help my unbelief."

Questions for Reflection:

  • Do I stay in my doubts regarding my faith or do I ask the Lord for help?
  • Do I reach out to God in prayer but also diligently seek the answers to my questions?
  • Do I follow St. Anselm's counsel "faith seeking understanding" and not the other way around?
