Weekly Reflection - 2nd Sunday of Lent

"While he was praying his face changed in appearance and his clothing became dazzling white." (Lk 9:29)

This is the Second Sunday of Lent.  Jesus is transfigured before his apostles.  There was no room for doubt regarding his divinity.  The vision was confirmed by Elijah representing the prophets and Moses representing the law.  The Church Fathers agree that it was to strengthen them for the scandal of the cross.

We have heard many times that only through the cross we reach the Resurreccion.  However, when we pass through the cross we seem to forget the presence of the Lord and his fidelity.  Instead of turning to God in prayer, we turn within ourselves.  Instead of turning to scripture for light we share a "feeling sad" emoji on Facebook.  Let us take advantage of this Lent and turn outward to God and reach out to others.

Questions for Reflection:

  • Am I able to see my sufferings from the perspective of the cross?
  • Does the thought of God's help in the past, assure me of his continued presence in the future?
  • When I find life difficult, does the truth of heaven help me to persevere?
