Weekly Reflection - 2nd Sunday of Lent (2024)

"Jesus took Peter, James, and John and led them up a high mountain apart by themselves." (Mk. 9:2)

This is the Second Sunday of Lent.  Jesus invites his three intimate friends to experience his Transfiguration.  Jesus leaves no room for doubt that He is God as His clothing became dazzling white before them.  They would have preferred to remain there but would have to come down from the mountain.

We have moments like this as well.  Jesus reveals Himself to us in our hearts or in a moment of prayer and we want to hold on to those consolations.  Jesus was preparing His apostles for his passion and death.  Peter would later give an account of this experience.  In moments of trial, pain or doubt we need to return to the graces that we have received to assure us that we are never truly alone.

Questions for Reflection:

  • Do I often recall the graces I have received?
  • In moments of trial do I recognize that God is only purifying my love for Him?
  • Am I aware that I must pass through the cross to experience the Resurrection?
