Weekly Reflection - 30th Sunday in Ordinary Time (2024)

"No one takes this honor upon himself but only when called by God." (Heb. 5:4)

This is the 30th Sunday of Ordinary Time. The author of the book of Hebrews mentions that God takes the initiative in calling us .  We all have a universal call to holiness.  In addition, God calls us to a specific state of life and entrusts us a specific mission to fulfill in life. We only have to ask him what he wants.

It is not uncommon today to live a practical atheism.  This is translated as a life of self sufficiency without reference to God.  If we do speak to him it is to express a need without asking him what he wants. In reality, our main concern should be simply to ask for the grace to know God's will.  He will always sustain us in the path he marks out for us.  The reward is happiness in this world and eternal life in the next.

Questions for Reflection:

  • Is my main concern to know God's will?
  • Do I realize that it's already marked out for me in the faithful fulfillment of my daily duty out of love?
  • Am I docile to the inspirations of the Holy Spirit even when it takes me out of my comfort zone?
