"Blessed are the poor in spirit; the kingdom of heaven is theirs!" (Mt. 5:3)
This is the Fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time. Christ teaches us the Beatitudes. In each of them we see how Christian values are diametrically opposed to worldly values. In short, Pope Benedict described it best by saying "the world offers you comfort, but you were not made for comfort; you were made for greatness."
To be great in God's eyes and not the world's is what's most important. A worldly success can be a failure in his eyes as a worldly failure can be a success. The most important thing is not to lose sight of our goal. Christ is clear regarding the need to wait for our ultimate reward. However, even in this life we can experience the joy of belonging to him and sharing in his life. Our Living Lights Pastoral Plan encourages us to live the Beatitudes and remind others that ultimately only God can fill the void in our hearts and satisfy our longing for eternity.

- Do I crave the goods of the world that by lived experience never satisfy?
- Am I willing to deny myself small things so as to live in freedom?
- Which is the beatitude that speaks most to me?
