Weekly Reflection - 5th Sunday of Lent

"Just one thing: forgetting what lies behind but straining forward to what lies ahead, I continue my pursuit toward the goal, the prize of God's upward calling, in Christ Jesus." (Philippians 3:13-14)

This is the 5th Sunday of Lent.  This week is traditionally known as Passiontide.  The Lord no longer moves about freely in public.  The hour of his Passion draws near.  Jesus taught us that life for humankind on this earth is a constant battle.  He went out to the desert to show us this.  He was faithful to the Father's plan even to the cross.

St. Paul also knew that God had prepared for him a crown if he was faithful.  He also said that he had fought the good fight, finished the race and kept the faith.  We also have to be faithful to the end.  It is not always easy and we have to start over many times.  It's not that we fall but we don't stay down but begin again.

Questions for Reflection:

  • Have I made the decision to be holy?
  • Am I aware that giving into discouragement is one of the greatest obstacles?
  • Do I pray for the grace of final perseverance daily?
