Weekly Reflection - 5th Sunday of Lent (2024)

"They came to Philip, who was from Bethsaida in Galilee, and asked him, "Sir, we would like to see Jesus." (Jn. 12:21)

This is the Fifth Sunday of Lent.  The Greeks were looking for Jesus.  People were fascinated by the teacher from Nazareth.  Humankind is also searching for Him, many times without even realizing it.  Jesus is ultimately He who gives meaning to our lives and the happiness we truly long for.  He only has the words of eternal life.

Johnny Lee has a song entitled "Looking for love in all the wrong places."  That is precisely the definition of sin and what happens when we misuse our freedom.  When we obey God we are actually most free because we are choosing the highest good and what most benefits us.  By loving God we are truly loving ourselves.

Questions for Reflection:

  • What do I keep going back to after experiencing that it doesn't satisfy me?
  • Do I recognize that there is a God void within me that only He can fill?
  • Have I renewed my decision to live well these last two weeks of Lent?
