Weekly Reflection - 6th Sunday of Ordinary Time

"Blessed is the one that trusts in the Lord." (Jeremiah 17:7)

This 6th Sunday of Ordinary Time, both the prophet Jeremiah and Jesus teach us to trust.  We are to trust in the Lord at all times.  The virtue of trust is without doubt one of the hardest to practice. You either trust or you don't.  We are to abandon all our cares to the Lord who cares for us.   In due time, he will answer us.  One of the hardest things to do is to trust God's timeline.  His thoughts and ways are infinitely different from our own.

St Therese of Lisieux is a doctor of the Church who taught the way of spiritual childhood.  She says:  "Everything is a grace, everything is the direct effect of our Father's love- difficulties, contradictions, humiliations, all the soul's miseries, her burdens, her needs- everything, because through them, she learns humility, realizes her weakness.  Everything is a grace because everything is God's gift.  Whatever be the character of life or it's unexpected events- to the heart that loves, all is well."

Questions for Reflection:

  • Do I truly trust in God?
  • How many times in my life have I listened to Jesus tell me "O you of little faith, why did you doubt?"
  • Have I turned over to God completely what is troubling me right now?
