"The Almighty has done great things for me." (Lk. 1:49)
This Sunday the Church celebrates the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. She is God's masterpiece who received the greatest gifts surpassing all the angels and saints. At the same time, she was the most humble person after her Son that walked the earth. She acknowledged that everything she had and was came from God and was only to be administered according to his plan. She was an instrument in God's hands, a stainless mirror that God's light passed through.
We also have received many gifts from God. However, we are not the Immaculate Conception. Often, we act as if they belong to us and use them without reference to God. "What do you possess that you have not received? But if you have received it, why are you boasting as if you did not receive it?" (1 Cor. 4:7).
Questions for Reflection:
- Do I acknowledge that all I have and am comes from God?
- Do I talk to him about how he wants me to use my gifts in order to give him the greatest glory?
- Am I convinced that all the good in me comes from him and all the bad in me is my own doing?
