Weekly Reflection - The Baptism of the Lord

And a voice came from heaven, "You are my beloved Son; with you I am well pleased." (Lk 3:22)

This Sunday is the Feast of the Baptism of the Lord.  Jesus himself is baptized by John.  It's hard to imagine the humility of the Creator being baptized by one of his creatures.  Jesus thought of me personally in every salvific action of his life.  He was baptized so I could share in his divine life.

"Christian remember your dignity;" we are reminded by St. Pope Leo the Great.  Everything we need is contained there in the form of a seed.  The saints are simply those who worked hard at corresponding to that grace.  As we study to grow intellectually and do exercise to grow physically, we must remember that most importantly we are called to develop baptismal grace to grow spiritually.

Questions for Reflection:

  • What does my baptism mean to me?
  • Do I frequently renew my baptismal promises?
  • What daily spiritual exercises do I do to develop baptismal grace?
