Weekly Reflection - Holy Family (2023)

"And let the peace of Christ control your hearts, the peace into which you were also called in one body." (Col. 3:15)

This Sunday is the Feast of the Holy Family.  When we contemplate the Prince of Peace with Joseph and Mary we see the epitome of harmony.  St. Augustine defines peace as "tranquilitas ordinis" or the tranquility of order.  Christ himself said that we must seek first the kingdom of God and everything else will be given us.

I cannot love anyone or anything above God.  By loving Him, we are truly loving ourselves.  Our hearts are restless until they rest in Him.  In this New Year that begins, we can rest assured that it will have it's share of challenges.  At the same time, our faith convinces us that Christ will also be there to accompany us with His grace.  Jesus is the Lord of History and is in control even when I'm not.

Questions for Reflection:

  • Have I abandoned my life completely to God?
  • Does the fear of future suffering distract me from all the good that God expects of me today?
  • Do I easily lose my peace and do I know how to recover it when lost?
