Weekly Reflection - Solemnity of the Ascension (2024)

"This Jesus who has been taken up from you into heaven will return in the same way as you have seen him going into heaven." (Acts 1:11)

This Sunday is the Solemnity of the Ascension.  Jesus has fulfilled His mission on earth.  He departs from his disciples only to stay with us in a more intimate way.  Christ walked the earth  physically and now we have become His hands and feet.  I am a member of His Mystical Body because of my Baptism.

There is work to be done.  Our main objective in life should be to bring as many souls as possible to Jesus.  He gives us the missionary mandate to go into all the world and baptize in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.  Pope Francis reminds us of how this is done. "Never by proselytism, never:  by witness.  One does not evangelize by proselytism, but by witness, by attraction."

Questions for Reflection:

  • Who has heard my message?
  • Do I consider Christ's missionary mandate directed to me personally?
  • Do I give witness by testimony and by words when necessary?
