"I, the LORD, am your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, that place of slavery. You shall not have other gods besides me." (Exodus 20:2-3)
This is the Third Sunday of Lent. During Lent we are to rid ourselves of false gods. We cannot serve two masters but in practice we often do. These gods are normally those things that attract us and distract from what is most important. We say to ourselves that we don't have time to pray or delve deeper into our faith yet we are shocked to see what our screen time has been the past week.
We live immersed in a secular society and are sons and daughters of our culture. The main answer to the question of prayer is to make room for God. Christ in the Gospel expelled the moneychangers. He wants to do the same in our souls this Lent.
Questions for Reflection:
- What has my attention that is not God?
- Do I schedule my daily prayer time?
- Do I recognize that ignorance of scripture is ignorance of Christ?
