Weekly Reflection - Twenty-First Sunday of Ordinary Time (2024)

Simon Peter answered him, "Master, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. (Jn. 6:68-69)

This is the Twenty-first Sunday of Ordinary Time.  We have reached the end of the bread of life discourse.  Jesus spoke the words of eternal life that shocked his hearers.  There was cause for their difficulty in accepting his message but faith is above reason without contradicting it.

Jesus is who he says he is.  Upon this rock we stand.  Faith is the acceptance of the veracity of the one who speaks who can neither deceive nor be deceived.  The source and summit of the Catholic faith is the Eucharist.  Those who have experienced the true presence of Christ in the Eucharist will never leave the Church.  The Church has weathered storms and scandals throughout her history but Christ remains with his Church.

Questions for Reflection:

  • Is Christ the rock I stand on?
  • Amidst the turbulence of world events does my faith guide me when my reason falls short?
  • Do I understand that trust in God is total or not at all?
