Weekly Reflection - 3rd Sunday of Advent

"Rejoice in the Lord always. I shall say it again: rejoice!" (Phil 4:4)

This Third Sunday of Advent is traditionally known as Gaudete Sunday.  The rose colored vestment and candle used in the Liturgy is a symbol of Christian joy.  St. Paul gave us a litany of every possible hardship he experienced  (2 Cor. 11:25) and at the same time exhorts us to be joyful.  It's obvious that our joy doesn't depend on external circumstances or of everything aligning with our desires.

If we align our will with God's will, we encounter peace in our soul.  We see how the surface of the ocean is turbulent but as you go deeper one encounters stillness and peace.  We can feel the cares and anxieties of life but we are assured that God will never abandon us.  May our prayer be: "Lord there is nothing that I will face today that you and I can't handle together."

Questions for Reflection:

  • Does the thought that we are never truly alone help me in my difficulties?
  • Have I learned to lean on Christ when I experience my weakness?
  • Do I submit to God's will knowing that it is the only path to true peace of soul?
