Weekly Reflection - 19th Sunday of Ordinary Time (2025)

"Brothers and sisters: Faith is the realization of what is hoped for and evidence of things not seen." (Heb. 11:1)

This is the Nineteenth Sunday of Ordinary Time. The second reading offers us a thumbnail sketch of the history of salvation. It is a history of heroic faith lived by those men and women who responded to God who led them in inscrutable ways. God revealed himself to man and invited him to a life different but better than what he could have imagined.

The risk of following Christ implies the gift of our lives. We abandon ourselves to a God who is infinitely good and cannot be deceived. The shadow of the cross is the moment when our faith is tested. Could a good God allow me or my loved ones to suffer? During these moments of trial, we should look to the cross to remind us that God who did not spare his only son will give us all things along with him.

Questions for Reflection:

  • Do I trust God even when I can't understand his plans for my life?
  • If I look back, can I see the blessings that have followed my yes to God?
  • Do I go up daily to God in prayer in order to see my life from his perspective?
