"Whose sins you forgive are forgiven them, and whose sins you retain are retained." (Jn. 20:23)
This is the Second Sunday of Easter or Divine Mercy Sunday. We have witnessed the extent of how far God goes to prove his love for us. He truly loves us in action and not only in words. He who knew no sin was made sin for us. He did this in order to wash us clean by His Precious Blood.
We have received this Blood of Christ without merit on our part. In the Litany of Rest we pray that "from the belief that I must change to earn your love, deliver me Jesus." In no way does this mean that Christ is indifferent to our moral actions but his mercy does not depend on them. We are light years from fully understanding God's Mercy. All we can do is believe in it and continue to return to it.
Questions for Reflection:
- Have I experienced God's Mercy in my life?
- Do I contemplate the way Christ treats others frequently?
- Have I forgiven myself also from my past sins?
