Weekly Reflection - 2nd Sunday of Ordinary Time (2024)

"Here am I, Lord; I come to do your will." (Psalm 40 Responsorial)

This is the Second Sunday of Ordinary Time.  Just last Sunday, we celebrated the Epiphany and now we contemplate Jesus in His Public Life.  At every moment the Lord sought to do the Father's will.  It was His food.  He said that it's not he who says "Lord, Lord" who enters the Kingdom of Heaven but the one who does the Father's will.  This was the entire life of Mary as well.

Two words can help us as we begin this new year, "Yes, Father!"  We know His will by the 10 Commandments, the Laws of the Church and our duty or state in life.  God's will is manifested moment by moment.  We shouldn't live anchored in the past or overly concerned about the future.  All we need to do is please the Father each moment by doing His will.

Questions for Reflection:
  • Is doing the Father's will my number one priority?
  • Do I think God's will should always be in alignment with what I want?
  • When things don't go my way, do I trust that my Father knows best?
