Weekly Reflection - 31st Sunday in Ordinary Time (2023)

"Like a weaned child held in its mother's arms, so is my soul within me." (Psalm 131:2)

This is the 31st Sunday of Ordinary Time.  During the month of November we reflect on the connection between this life and the next.  We are called to be saints.  God's will is our sanctification.  The saints corresponded generously to God's grace and reached the eternal homeland.  If there is something lacking in us, there is a final purification that awaits us after death. We invoke the saints to help us and we offer prayers for those souls in need, living and deceased.

In order to have an interior life, we have to cultivate peace.  The image of a child on its mother's lap helps us understand what resting in God is about.  We can't allow anyone or anything to make us lose our peace.  The only way we can be peacemakers is to have God's peace within.  Let the responsorial "In your will is our peace" be our constant reminder where to find it.

Questions for Reflection:

  • Do I understand that the only way to peace is to accept God's will?
  • Do I know how to recover my peace when I've lost it?
  • Does Jesus in the boat asleep assure me that he's totally in control when I'm not?
