Weekly Reflection - 5th Sunday of Ordinary Time

"Here I am, I said; send me!" (Isaiah 6:8)

This Fifth Sunday of Ordinary Time, we witness the beginning of two vocations: Isaiah and Peter.  Each of the accounts begin with a profound experience of the divinity.  Contact with God allows us to see ourselves as we really are.  God is infinite, we are finite. He is the Creator, we are creatures.  He is eternal, we are mortal.  He is sinless, we are not.

Instead of leading us into discouragement, our nothingness is only meant to ground us in a right relationship with God.  St. Paul says, "When I am weak, then I am strong."  Jesus tells us that "Without me you can do nothing."  We are encouraged not to fear because he is with us. If we respond generously to his call, we can lean on his all powerful strength at each moment.

Questions for Reflection:

  • Do I realize that God has called me?
  • Does my weakness just teach me to lean on Him more?
  • Am I confident that "In Him I can do all things?"
