Weekly Reflection - The Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ (2022)

"This is my body that is for you.  Do this in remembrance of me."  (1 Cor. 11:24)

This Sunday is the Solemnity of Corpus Christi.  We celebrate in a solemn way the true presence of the body, blood, soul and divinity of Jesus Christ in the Eucharist.  Only God could come up with a way to remain with us until the end of time.  Every time there is a duly ordained priest who celebrates Mass, Christ is made present for us.

We come to Mass not only to receive communion but also to offer ourselves in union with Him to the Father.  Our entire lives are meant to be a host with the Host.  People should be able to come to us and receive what they need.  Christ is our life.  He remains with us in the tabernacle and waits for us.

St. John Paul II said the following, "It is pleasant to spend time with him, to lie close to his breast like the Beloved Disciple (cf. Jn 13:25) and to feel the infinite love present in his heart. If in our time Christians must be distinguished above all by the “art of prayer”, how can we not feel a renewed need to spend time in spiritual converse, in silent adoration, in heartfelt love before Christ present in the Most Holy Sacrament? How often, dear brothers and sisters, have I experienced this, and drawn from it strength, consolation and support!" (Ecclesia et Eucharistia #25)

Questions for Reflection:

  • How often do I visit Christ in the Eucharist?
  • Can I say I share my life with Him on a daily basis?
  • Am I aware that without Him I can do nothing?
