Father Michael's Weekly Reflection

Weekly Reflection - The Ascension of the Lord (2026)

"But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you." (Acts 1:8)

This Sunday is the Solemnity of the Ascension. Christ enters into heaven to intercede on our behalf. The body of Christ hopes to go where the head has gone before. He has not left us orphans but given us his own Spirit; a Spirit not of cowardice but of power.

Heaven awaits us at the end of our earthly pilgrimage. Unfortunately, our will struggles with abstract goals, especially those our senses can't perceive. God has prepared a place for us but we must do our part. We must live for God's glory without seeking results. At the end of our lives only what we have done out of love for God and our neighbor will remain.

Questions for Reflection:

  • Do I live only for the glory of God?
  • How often do I think of heaven?
  • Am I willing to do whatever it takes with God's help to get there?
