"My sheep hear my voice, I know them, and they follow me." (Jn. 10:27)
This Fourth Sunday of Easter is Good Shepherd Sunday. Providentially, God has just sent us a new universal shepherd to keep us united in charity. Authority in the Church is service. The higher rank or position is only to serve in a greater manner. The Pope's title is servant of the servants of God.
Each of us has been called to be a shepherd and receive shepherding. We are asked to have a shepherd's care to those entrusted to us and be docile to the shepherding we receive. Parents shepherd their children as priests, bishops and the Pope shepherd their people. Christ said "learn from me because I am meek and humble of heart." Christ is always our model who was firm in principles but kind and gentle in the manner he taught.
Questions for Reflection:
- Do I frequently ask myself what Christ would do if he were in my place right now?
- What can I learn from Christ's manner of shepherding?
- Am I stubborn or docile to the shepherding I receive?
