Weekly Reflection - Twenty Second Sunday of Ordinary Time (2025)

"Rather, when you are invited, go and take the lowest place." (Lk. 14:10)

This is the Twenty Second Sunday of Ordinary Time. Christ teaches us to take the lowest place. He abased himself and took on our sinful humanity to redeem us and give us an example. He is the King of Kings and Lord of Lords and yet washes the feet of his disciples. In today's world we synonymize success with rank and status. Because of original sin there exists the desire to seek power and position.

The truth of our lives is who we are in God's eyes and that is all. When our status is taken away from us, we often feel that our lives have lost meaning. The underlying truth is that I am a child of God, created to give him glory. I have been entrusted a mission to fulfill in this world that no one else has. No one else can do what has been entrusted to me. This we must do well and avoid comparing ourselves to others.

Questions for Reflection:

  • Do I often compare myself with others?
  • Am I jealous of their status or success?
  • Am I able to thank God for the gifts and talents I have received and work so that they give God the greatest glory?
