The Nativity of Our Lord (2024)

"The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light." (Is 9:1)

This evening we celebrate the Vigil of Christ's Nativity.  A shining light has pierced through the darkness and the people have seen a great light.  The blind now see.  There are no words to express the gratitude each of us should have in our hearts.  Everything in my life has meaning. Christ has elevated my nature to participate in his divine nature. I am a son or daughter of God.

Time and eternity have met.  The Prince of Peace has come to give good tidings to men of good will.  God has loved us first.  When I have experienced the reality that I am deeply loved by a God infinite in goodness, my life changes.  I can no longer live for myself but for him who has loved me and gave himself up for me.  Like the shepherds, I am to go and announce to all what I have seen and heard.

Questions for Reflection:

  • Have I come to know and to believe in the love God has for me?
  • As God loves me by deeds and not words only, do I love Him in the same manner?
  • Have I shared this love with others?
