Weekly Reflection - 16th Sunday in Ordinary Time 2022

"Martha, Martha, you are anxious and worried about many things." (Lk. 10:41)

This is the Sixteenth Sunday of Ordinary Time.  We contemplate the scene of Martha and Mary.  Martha is busy with the work while Mary apparently has left her alone.  Jesus commends Mary for choosing the better part.

Obviously, Matha's service for the Lord was necessary and a sign of her love for him.  However, St. John Paul II said not to "leave the Lord of all things for the things of the Lord."  Our duty to work is necessary and even the will of God for us.  It's commendable the amount of work that many of us offer to our Parish and greater Community.  At the same time, we cannot forget the Lord.  Only He makes our work fruitful. Only united to Him does the work we do make sense according to His plan.

Questions for Reflection:

  • Besides specific prayer time, do I elevate my work to God?
  • Am I often led by stress and anxiety?
  • Do I realize that the Lord is constantly with me wherever I go and whatever I do?
