Weekly Reflection - 2nd Sunday of Advent

"John went throughout the whole region of the Jordan, proclaiming a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins." (Lk 3:3)

This Sunday is the Second Sunday of Advent.  The Church invites us to reflect upon the figure of St. John the Baptist.  He was not the Word but only the voice and felt unworthy to untie his sandals.  John received a specific mission from God; to prepare the way for his Son.

We are also asked to prepare our hearts for the Lord's coming.  Pride is a major obstacle for the Lord to make his abode with us.  When we are full of ourselves, there's no room for him.  When we are empty of ourselves, the Lord can use us as his instruments to bring peace and healing to a world in need.

Questions for Reflection:

  • Do my thoughts frequently revolve around myself?
  • What's my reaction when things don't go as I'd like?
  • Am I open to the plans God has for me?
