"Receive the Holy Spirit. Whose sins you forgive are forgiven them, and whose sins you retain are retained." (Jn. 20:23)
This is the Second Sunday of Easter known as Divine Mercy Sunday. "Give thanks to the Lord for His mercy endures forever." (Psalm 118) God is infinite in all his attributes. He is all just and all merciful at the same time. The only thing he asks is that we acknowledge our sins and turn to him with confidence to receive mercy and forgiveness.
Christ has forgiven us and wiped away our sins in His precious blood. He especially does this through the Sacrament of Confession. It is impossible to approach the Sacrament of Mercy with true sorrow and a sincere desire to make amends and not leave transformed. The experience we have of God's love and mercy enables us to be compassionate toward the misery of others.
Questions for Reflection:
- Have I experienced God's loving mercy in my life?
- Am I aware that when I repent for my sins, I allow God to flood my soul with His mercy?
- Do I make a proposal of amendment after each Confession to prove my sorrow for sin?
